In this new film, actress Elsie Fisher absolutely captivates on screen as the young Kayla Day, a pre-teen girl who is finishing her final week of eighth grade.
The trailer opens with a look into Kayla’s world through her YouTube videos, where she posts videos about optimism and self-confidence. We then see our young protagonist struggling through her final week of school.
We see as she struggles to fit in with her classmates and how she can often find herself struggling to keep afloat amidst all of the carefully cultivated social media channels which she follows, all of which display beautiful young women who seem effortlessly beautiful, happy and confident.
While struggling to break out of her shell and to make friends with her peers, we can all relate to Kayla and remember back to our own pre-teen selves. It is through Kayla's eyes that the trailer takes us through a typical day in the life of a middle schooler who has grown up with the internet. This includes scrolling through Instagram feeds in the hallways, Snapchat filters at lunch, dabbing principals - and of course the dreaded puberty talk.
This trailer includes all of the staples of young adolescence, including boy-girl pool parties, first crushes, and painfully awkward parent-child talks, allowing a closer look at the wild, desperate, lonely and pathetically hopeful time that eighth grade can be.Bo Burnham pulls out all the stops to make the trailer shine, sharing just how strange this time in your life can be.
Eighth Grade will be in Cinemas April 26.
