Gone Girl meets Taken?
Paul Feig’s (Bridesmaids, Spy, Ghostbusters) upcoming mystery thriller A Simple Favour (2018) has finally gotten a trailer, along with an expected release date of mid September.
Based on the novel of the same name, written by Darcy Bell, the story follows Stephanie (Anna Kendrick), a vlogger who seeks to uncover the truth behind the sudden disappearance of her seemingly perfect best friend, Emily (Blake Lively).
"She is an enigma, my wife. You can get close to her, but never quite reach her,” are the haunting words we hear from Emily’s husband Sean, (Henry Golding), proclaimed against the coquettish french music played throughout the duration of the trailer.
"Everybody has a dark side," Kendrick's character shortly adds. "Some of us are better at hiding it than others.” How mysterious.
Featuring the added appearances of an explosive car crash, a gun, multiple police cars, and Blake Lively in some sort of disguise (of course), it is clear that there is more to this film than what initially meets the eye.
We may have only limited insight into the film, but at least we now have an answer as to why Blake Lively recently wiped her entire Instagram alongside changing her bio to the cryptic question ‘Where is Emily?’.
Despite the title’s insinuation, this film is probably far from simple.
A Simple Favour hits cinemas on September 21st.
