Paramount Pictures have released the first trailer for the upcoming Jennifer Lawrence film Mother!

The psychological horror, also starring Javier Bardem, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, is slated to release in the UK this September with the film also set to compete for the Golden Lion award at this year’s Venice International Film Festival.

This is the first real look we have been given at the film after a short teaser was released earlier in the week. The full trailer gives us a better idea of the plot as well as showing off some of the movie's creepy imagery.

The film follows Jennifer Lawrence and Javier Bardem as their married life in the countryside becomes tested when strange couple, Ed Harris and Michelle Pfeiffer, turn up to lodge with them. The trailer sees Lawrence questioning her husband’s apparent trust of the couple and gives us reason to believe that there’s more to the visitors than meets the eye.

We get a look at some of the horror the film has to offer with some quick cuts towards the end of the trailer showing burning pictures on the floor of Bardem, a group of people with torches eerily making their way to what is supposedly Lawrence’s home and a wall oozing with blood as something seemingly attempts to break through it.

As the film is directed by Darren Aronofsky, the man behind Requiem for and Dream and the Oscar winning Black Swan, we can expect the intense psychological element to play a major role with the trailer giving the impression that the film will question whether anything is really happening or if Lawrence’s character is in fact going mad.

Either way, we’ll find out what Mother! is all about when it hits UK theatres on September 15th.

Until then check out the latest trailer below.
