The video, whilst not showing much in terms of new footage, does give a more in-depth look into the production of the film with cast members, and director Rian Johnson all having their say on how the next instalment is shaping up.

New sets, creature designs and characters all feature in the short video with fans being given their first glimpse of Laura Dern’s Vice Admiral Amilyn Holdo as well as a brief look at Benicio Del Toro’s DJ.

The cast talk throughout about how they expect the new film to surprise fans with John Boyega, returning as Finn, saying director Johnson “has made Star Wars fresh and new”. Johnson himself says in the video that the film will be “a little shocking” but also “real and honest”.

Boyega and fellow cast member Gwendoline Christie, who plays Captain Phasma, revealed more details during the film’s press conference at D23 on Saturday by speaking about an upcoming conflict between Finn and Phasma.

The main theme of the video seems to suggest that this will be a new kind of Star Wars film that will break the mould of the series’ previous tropes. This will come as exciting news to fans, especially those who felt The Force Awakens leant too heavily on the original trilogy.

The Last Jedi promises to be an exciting new entry in the incredibly successful franchise come its release this December. Until then, check out the behind the scenes video below.

Star Wars: The Last Jedi is due to be released 15th December 2017.
