In all the excitement over the UK general election, you might have missed out on some exciting film news this week. If you're looking to catch up, here are a few of the major headlines.

Zhang Ziyi joins cast of Godzilla: King Of The Monsters

Zhang Ziyi (Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon; The Grandmaster) has joined the cast of Godzilla: King of the Monsters, the planned sequel to 2014's Godzilla. She is set to play a recurring role as an operative of the secretive Monarch organization, which appeared in both Godzilla and Kong: Skull Island. Ziyi will also play the character in Godzilla vs. Kong, as part of Warner Bros. and Legendary's MonsterVerse. Godzilla: King of the Monsters will be directed by Michael Dougherty from a script he co-wrote with Zach Shields and is set for a March, 2019 release.

Mellissa McCarthy will star in Christmas comedy Margie Claus

Mellissa McCarthy (Bridesmaids, Ghostbusters) will play Margie Claus in a Christmas musical comedy directed by Ben Falcone and co-written with Damon Jones. The premise involves Santa Claus going missing on Christmas Eve, forcing Margie to leave her home in the North Pole “for the first time in eons” to rescue him. Margie Claus is set for a November 2019 release.

Joel Edgerton set to write and direct gay deprogram drama Boy Erased

Joel Edgerton (The Great GatsbyLoving), who made his directorial debut with 2015's The Gift, is now set to write and direct Boy Erased, based on the memoir by Garrard Conley. The book is about Conley's experiences with a church-supported conversion therapy programme that aimed to "cure" homosexuality. Lucas Hedges (Manchester by the Sea) is set to star and Edgerton is reportedly pursuing Russel Crowe and Nicole Kidman for supporting roles. Boy Erased is expected to start production in the fall.

Ant-Man sequel Ant-Man and the Wasp adds Hannah John-Kamen

Up-and-coming actress Hannah John-Kamen joins Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly and Michael Douglas in the upcoming Ant-Man and the Wasp in an as-of-yet unspecified role. Little is known about the Ant-Man sequel, which sees Payton Reed returning to direct from a script credited to Andrew Barrer and Gabriel Ferrari, with story work by Paul Rudd and Adam McKay. Ant-Man and the Wasp is set for a June, 2018 release.

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan reteam for Wrong Answer

Ryan Coogler and Michael B. Jordan, who previously worked together on Creed and Fruitvale Station and are currently working on Marvel's Black Panther, are already planning their next movie together. Wrong Answer, based on a true story about a standardized test cheating scandal, has a script written by Ta-Nehisi Coates, an award winning journalist who is also the writer of Marvel's current Black Panther comic book series. 

James Mangold set to direct Disorder remake

James Mangold (Logan, 3:10 to Yuma) will direct an English-language remake of 2015's French-Belgian thriller Disorder, which starred Matthias Schoenaerts and Diane Kruger. Taylor Sheridan (Sicario, Hell or High Water) will pen the script for the remake. The original is about an ex-soldier with PTSD hired to protect the wife and child of a wealthy Lebanese businessman.

Alison Brie, Bob Odenkirk and Carrie Coon latest additions to the cast of Steven Spielberg's The Papers

Alison Brie (Community, The LEGO Movie), Bob Odenkirk (Better Call Saul, Breaking Bad) and Carrie Coon (Fargo) have joined the cast of Steven Spielberg's upcoming movie The Papers, based on the true story of The Pentagon Papers as exposed by the Washington Post. The Papers has an all-star cast that includes Tom Hanks, Meryl Streep, David Cross, Bruce Greenwood, Pat Healy, Tracy Letts, Sarah Paulson, Jesse Plemons, Matthew Rhys, Michael Stuhlbarg, Bradley Whitford and Zach Woods. It is set for a December release in the US and a January release in the UK.
