"I saw these pictures of these two faces and I started to cry…and I don’t know why…it was a totally pure, visual, unconscious reaction, and it just touched something deep within me and I don’t know what. And I’ve never really questioned it too much because it felt like a sign that this was a calling”. Oscar-nominated Rosamund Pike is about to hit our cinema screens as Ruth Williams, the British wife of the King of Bechuanaland, in her new film A United Kingdom. The film tells the hidden story of a marriage which shook the world, and how her husband Seretse Khama of Bechuanaland (modern day Botswana) faced political turmoil on return to his native country. Here the actress discusses the way in which the story spoke to her, her chemistry with co-star David Oyelowo, and the challenge of getting in to the character. Watch the interview below… Interview edited by Nicolo Gervasi. A United Kingdom is released in UK cinemas on 25th November.
