2014 Razzie Nominations Revealed

The Oscars are just around the corner – but of course, Hollywood doesn’t feel the need to pat everyone on the back. Enter – the Razzies.

Leading the way with a nomination in every category is the very forgettable Grown Ups 2, and those unlucky enough to have suffered the movie will understand why.  A sequel to film of the same name it follows rag tag bunch of friends (Adam Sandler, Chris Rock, Kevin James and David Spade) as they all move back to their hometown.  However instead of hilarity ensuring Grown Ups 2 is nothing short of over the top situations and toilet humour.

Coming in a close second with a total of five nominations is the first box office flop Will Smith has attached himself to since Wild Wild West (which won 7 Razzies in 2000).  After Earth, on paper, looked to be a soiled movie with the father and son casting of Will and Jaden Smith but it feel flat on its face.  With underwhelming directing from M. Night Shyamalan (again) poor execution of the story and extremely poor acting of Jaden Smith After Earth was panned critics and is fully deserving of its  five nominations.

Also joining the list is Movie 43, which before its release was hyped to be the comedy of the year with its star-packed cast.  However with critics panning the movie for its lack of humour and similarities to a sketch show it is generally considered one of the bug busts of the year.

The Razzies are the polar opposite of the Oscars but that doesn’t mean the nominees completely shun the awards.  Since its inception there have been several high profile actors who accepted their awards in person that include Ben Affleck in 2004, Halle Berry in 2005 and most notably Sandra Bullock in 2010 - who then lifted the Oscar for Best Actress in The Blind Side the next day.
