Werewolf: The Beast Among Us is the latest incarnation of monster movie, brought to you by Universal studios, the studio behind the legacy of werewolf movies from The Wolf Man, American Werewolf in London and most recently The Wolfman.

Full of gore and bloodthirsty attacks, this action-packed horror thriller takes Universal Studios’ historic monster legacy to an all-new level of chilling action and terrifying suspense.

It’s out to own on DVD and Blu-ray now, and to celebrate we’ve compiled a list of the top five classic horror movies you must watch this Halloween...

1.       Halloween (1978)

The low budget independent horror film featured Michael Myers, a psychotic murderer institutionalized since childhood for the murder of his sister, dressing up and scaring the living bejaysus out of high school girls for shits and giggles.

Survival Tip: Keep those post pubescent hormones under control and your knickers up.  And stay away from trick or treating mask wearing 6-year-old boys this Halloween.

2.       Hellraiser (1978)

Hellraiser was Clive Barker's feature directing debut, which spawned a franchise and inspired a million Pinhead Halloween costumes, usually favoured by Goths.

Survival Tip: If it takes more than a squirt of WD40 to open a rusty old box, probably best to leave it alone.

3.       The Evil Dead (1981)

Five kids venture into the woods to spend their Spring Break vacation in an isolated cabin. They soon stumble upon a tape recorder that plays demonic incantations and begins unleashing evil demons.

*cue trouble*

Writer and Director, Sam Raimi, did such a fantastic job with the graphic violence and terror that the movie was banned in several countries, with the release being hindered by public authorities for almost ten years.

Survival Tip: Spring Break is not about cutting yourself off from civilization altogether. Go to Vegas, get drunk, get wasted, get laid, get married if you have to and catch the Greyhound home. Intact.

4.       The Ring (2002)

Using that old tried and tested demonic video tape chestnut again, The Ring centers around an urban legend that a video tape exists that will cause the viewer certain death seven days after watching it.  And if you don’t need an underwear change when Samara pays a visit to Aiden’s living room via the TV set, then you must be in the possession of a few psychopathic tendencies yourself.

Survival Tip: Downloads. Stick to downloads. No one ever died from a download.

5.       Werewolf: The Beast Among Us (2012)

When a mysterious creature starts making mince meat out of the local vagrants, a young man struggles to protect his loved ones from such a fearsome and relentless beast. He soon convinces a team of skilled werewolf hunters to let him join their quest to hunt the beast down.

However, it soon becomes clear that the creature is stronger, smarter and more dangerous than anything the werewolf hunters have ever faced before.  Their series of violent escapades soon become more gruesome than ever expected, and their misadventures begin to escalate out of control, with horrifying consequences…

Survival Tip: Get out while you still can.
