Every year the world waits for the first Monday in May (and not just because it's a bank holiday) it's home to the Met Gala, the fashion event of the year. This year it was co-chaired by Lady Gaga, Harry Styles, Alessandro Michele and Serena Williams... so we knew it was going to be a good one.
Held at New York's Metropolitan Museum of Art, the Met Gala is centered around a theme each year. This year the theme was 'Camp: Notes on Fashion' inspired by Susan Sontag's seminal essay. But who stuck to the theme? And who were the best dressed this year? We've rounded up the very best of the best.

Katy PerryWe can always rely on Katy Perry to follow a theme, and boy did she come through. Dripping in head-to-toe Swarovski embellished Moschino, Katy was the epitome of camp. Her look was inspired by a candelabra - a motif which was made famous by the king of camp Liberace (the film about his life was even called Behind The Candelabra.) This look was a standout and despite people mocking it across social media, we know for sure that it's a look that will go down in Met Gala history. Lady GagaView this post on Instagram
When we heard that Lady Gaga was one of the co-chairs of this year's Met Gala, we all rejoiced! She's not one to shy away from experimental styles and over the top looks, and she more than realised our expectations. She gave us not one, not two, but four looks on the red carpet - courtesy of Brandon Maxwell. Kacey MusgravesView this post on Instagram
Country star and red carpet queen Kacey Musgraves also opted for a Moschino look. Her Barbie inspired get-up was complete with blonde wig and hairdryer handbag. Moschino was a popular choice for guests, and it's not hard to see why Jeremy Scott's designs are as camp as they come! Come on Barbie lets go party! Ezra MillerView this post on Instagram
It's fair to say that men often don't live up to expectations when it comes to red carpet dressing (cough - Taron Egerton we're talking about you.) Ezra Miller, however, was an exception to the rule. A bedazzled cape, corset and brogues were a welcome addition to his traditional English gentleman style Burberry suit. The stand-out of his look, however, was, of course, THAT MAKEUP. Lupita Nyong'oView this post on Instagram
When given a theme, Lupita Nyong'o is guaranteed to knock it out of the park. Alongside her stylist Micaela Erlanger (an iconic duo), Lupita gave us one of the best looks the Met has ever seen. Rainbow colours, huge fans and extreme ruffles - camp? Nailed it.View this post on Instagram

Giambattista Valli is known for their over the top silhouettes, ruffles and candy colours so naturally, they were a popular choice for the Met. Newly blonde Emma Roberts wore the look reminiscent of the look that Kacey Musgraves wore to the Academy Awards back in February. The look was finished off with a stunning headpiece and rosy pink makeup. Jared LetoView this post on Instagram
What's more camp than carrying a model of your own head on the red carpet? Doing it whilst dressed in a red silk look complete with heavy embellishment? The face of Gucci, Jared Leto was one of the few men who really stuck to the theme and looked incredible. Hailee SteinfeldView this post on Instagram
When Viktor & Rolf unveiled their slogan dresses earlier this year we waited with bated breath to see who would be brave enough to wear one on the red carpet. Hailee Steinfeld opted for the 'No Photo's Please' style, complete with huge blown out curls and an exaggerated hair bow. Camp chic. Dua LipaView this post on Instagram
A true mash-up of different styles, Dua Lipa served us 60's meet 90's meets early 00's. The hair and makeup were reminiscent of Priscilla Presley back in the Elvis days, whilst the outfit was a modern take on the Gianni Versace's early designs for Versace. The matching tights, shoes, and bodice were tied together with an exaggerated chunky belt. Tres camp. Gemma ChanView this post on Instagram
Crazy Rich Asian's star Gemma Chan was the breakout style star of the past year, so we were delighted to hear she would be attending the Met. Her look was inspired by Elizabeth Taylor, she wore custom Tom Ford complete with a huge but intricate headpiece. The dress with cape combo reminded us of Daenerys Targaryen from Game of Thrones and we think it's a look we could see the Khaleesi wearing when she takes the Iron Throne. Lena WaitheView this post on Instagram
So this look in itself isn't exactly camp, but we had to include it. Lena Waithe is known for using red carpet events to make political statements, and this year's Met was no exception. From the front, her outfit looked like an ordinary pin-stripe suit, but when she turned around her Pyer Moss jacket was emblazoned with 'Black Drag Queens Invented Camp'.
