The period-proof underwear brand that champions women

In March last year, The Independent reported that the average woman will go through over 11,000 disposable feminine hygiene products in her lifetime. That's 11,000 tampons or pads per woman being flushed into the sea.

A period pants brand with a difference... 

Launched in 2017 by founder and managing director Paige Fashoni, FLUX Undies is a lingerie brand committed to saving the planet. Flux is a range of 'period-proof' underwear, made from moisture-wicking, anti-microbial, and quick-dry properties meaning that the underwear alone can be worn as a replacement for tampons or pads. And instead of binning them every few hours as you'd do with typical sanitary products, FLUX can be washed and worn again and again. 

Unlike other period underwear companies, FLUX has designed their pants with the purpose to completely replace sanitary products rather than working as back up. Paige wanted to create the perfect underwear for women to wear during their period but also not have any worries of leaks or stains that you get with generic period products.

 “I went through about 20 different prototypes and tested so many fabrics to make sure the final product was absolutely perfect,” she says.

They're sustainable, made in the UK from eco-friendly materials

The underwear is made in the UK, by a family-run company that has been operating for almost 100 years. Not only this, but they're created entirely using sustainable materials - and unlike some other period underwear brands they don't use any wool or animal products in production, so they are 100% vegan.

“We’re using sustainable materials. Disposable pads and tampons take upwards of 500 years to decompose, which is just crazy. I wanted to create a product that’s kind to our planet and our skin,” says Paige.

Empowering women is of the utmost importance...

For Paige, women are at the forefront of her brand, and FLUX has been created totally with all different women in mind: “I want to build a brand that is inclusive of everyone. A brand that breaks boundaries. A brand that makes people feel empowered.”

For their product shots and campaigns, FLUX uses real women from all walks of life. The shots are completely un-retouched, creating an empowering and freeing campaign that all women can relate to.

“I’m passionate about promoting diversity and body positivity. All of our photo-shoots are unedited, and people from all different backgrounds are used to represent FLUX. I’m hoping other brands will follow in the same footsteps.” 

The products have been created with everyone in mind too - not only do they offer several different styles of underwear, but they have also launched the detachable pants. These are underwear that detaches on the side, meaning they are ideal for women with decreased mobility who may not be able to change their underwear conventionally.

The 'By You, For Her' Scheme...

This isn't the only great thing Paige and her brand are doing. Alongside FLUX she has launched the 'By You, For Her' scheme in a bid to help end period poverty: “There are so many girls worldwide missing school and being shamed for having a period that I had to try and do help in some way. That’s why I created the scheme “By You, For Her”, so for every pair of FLUX bought, a reusable washable cloth pad is donated to a girl in the developing world.”

So not only are you helping the planet, and yourself... you're helping a girl in need.
