The Ugly Shoe trend set to take over your Instagram

You’ve heard of mom jeans, grandad jumpers and even dad bods, but now enter: the mum mule. Despite spending our teen years ridiculing our parents, as adults we can't help but look to their wardrobes for some retro style inspiration.

It wasn't that long ago we were stumbling across the dance floor in platforms that could've been taken directly from ABBA’s 1975 dressing room, but this season we’re fast forwarding to the ‘80s for our footwear finds.

The shoe in question is already sneaking it’s way into our instagram feeds, defined by strappy detailing and a maximum heel height of two inches.

Aside from the comfort appeal, the versatility of the mum mule means they can look just as cute with a pair of old jeans as they do with a glam party dress, guaranteeing to seamlessly carry you from afternoon brunch right through to post-work cocktails.

If the social media hype wasn’t enough to sway you, the quirky sandals have also been a favourite of some of fashion’s leading luxury designers such as Fendi, Stella McCartney and Valentino.

Off the catwalk, the shoes are flying off shelves on the high street and have been spotted on the feet of fashion week attendees in Berlin and Copenhagen over the summer.

It’s no surprise that mum mules have taken off. In a world where trainers dominate flat shoe trends, a dressier option that doesn't compromise comfort is a godsend, especially considering the wide range of colours and styles out there at the moment.

These kitten heeled mules are just one of a multitude of controversial slippers on the market.

We’ve had crocs, cloggs, fur sliders and Ugg boots causing a stir in our wardrobes, but if one thing’s for sure, there’s something about an ugly shoe we just cant resist!
