Lydia's Look for Less: ladylike in lilac

When Victoria Beckham does something spectacular, the rest of the fashion world is sure to follow. And that was exactly what happened last September, when she presented a lilac suit.

The internet went crazy for the powerful feminine two piece and the high street is now full of copy cat tailored suits, and rightly so.

Throughout the shows for SS18, the catwalk was full of lilac hues from structured jackets at Tibi, Tom Ford and Nina Ricci, to soft girly dresses at Ulla Johnson and Creatures of Comfort. And that's not fogetting those chunky lavender knits at Michael Kors.

With Pantone naming Ultra Violet as their colour of the year and lavender covering the catwalk, it’s no surprise that lilac is the must have colour of the season.

Spring is always full of pretty pastels, but lilac has given the trend a serious upgrade - no longer sugary sweet - lilac is feminine with a stylish sophisticated edge. Think of it as the cool older sister of the pastel world.

Get that look for less!

When it comes to incorporating lilac into your wardrobe, you can get your hands on a Victoria Beckham look alike suit for £55 from Pretty Little Thing!

Do the buttons up yet wear no top underneath, for an alternative formal look - perfect for end of term balls! Pair it with green statement earrings to get the exact catwalk look or wear with white trainers and sunglasses for street style vibes.

To really get your money’s worth with this suit - switch it up and wear the pieces separately. The trousers will go great with a white T-Shirt or jumper for a laid back look. A silver skirt and a little white top under the blazer will create a glamorous and stand out look.

Emporio Armani's was another show packed with pastels - in particular with delicate lilac blouses.

To steal this more feminine take on the trend, try out this gorgeous H&M pleated blouse for only £29.99.

This blouse would look great with a pair of flared trousers, some high-wated jeans or even a carpeted skirt to tick those trend-setter boxes. Or, to give this frilled top a seriously edgy 70s feel, try pairing with checked trousers and a long brown coat.

And to finish off

The designers' love of lilac extended right towards the toes with Creatures of Comfort and Tibi showcasing stunning lilac slingback heels. The kitten heel is still a major trend and just a touch of this sophisticated pastel colour will invigorate your wardrobe and keep you fashion forward.

Office have created a great replica of the Creatures of Comfort slingback heel, whilst on the more expensive side at £69 - they’re a great way to dress up jeans and if you’re hesitant about adding colour to your wardrobe, this the perfect way to dip into the trend.

Check back in a couple of weeks, for more tips on how to nail those new season styles!
