More than a year after Barbie's fashionista makeover brought diversity to her plastic world, Toy maker Mattel has given Ken a a matching makover, now coming in seven different skin tones with a range of hair styles and a trendy new wardrobe.
In what’s been labelled the “most diverse line-up to date", there are now 15 new Ken dolls to choose from, including one with a man-bun and another with cornrows!
The most noteworthy feature of these new dolls is that, like their female counterparts, they are no longer all caucasian. While Mattel has previously introduced mixed race and black dolls, they've all been labelled Ken or Barbie’s 'friends'. But now for the first time ever, you can get Asian, black and mixed-race Kens.
In a statement Mattel said: "Evolving Ken was a natural evolution for the brand, and allows girls to further personalise the role they want him to play in Barbie’s world.”
