Top action sports brand Animal has revealed its 2014 Spring Summer collections, including the exciting new Rider Series. Featuring Animal’s signature fusion of style and performance across pieces such as denims, shirts and shorts, the Rider Series sees Animal collaborate with three of its top athletes; Blake Samson, Martyn Ashton and Alan Stokes, each pro rider drawing inspiration from their own trials, travels and tribulations. Martyn Ashton’s first collection with Animal was his 2012 ‘Road Bike Party’ collection, and the mountain bike trials rider’s new capsule collection is similarly inspired by trials riding, featuring details such as a bold photo print tee of Martyn in action and a chain-effect logo. Surfer Alan Stokes is the current British champion, and his collection features photos from his travels and surf adventures to create a selection of supreme tees, shirts and raglan tops. In true surfer style, Alan Stokes has also added in two board-shorts styles, perfect for hitting the waves this summer. Focusing on his motto, ‘Live Life Now’, the Alan Stokes collection gives you all the elements to do just that. Blake Samson understands the harsh reality of just how many clothes a mountain biker can destruct in his career! To solve this challenge, he helped design a 6-piece range with a good mix of functionality and style, including the perfect riding shorts alongside Polygiene treated tees, which keeps the product smelling fresh wash after wash. Alan Stokes said of his collection: ‘I’ve got a bunch of cool photos from all my years’ travelling, so we thought it would be rad to do something with them. I was out in Mexico filming for our StRaNGe Beautiful LIFE series and was writing the article to go out with the film, and I had this “Live Life Now” thing banging around my head. Then Animal asked me if I wanted to get involved with designing some summer clothes, and it all fitted into place. ‘My inspiration was those three words: “Live Life Now”. I was out in Mexico at the time and all the local people were just going about their daily business, no technology, just fishing and working the land, living right in the moment. ‘The hardest part of the design process for me was picking the images, as I have so many with memories attached, but we narrowed it down, and the line has a cool message so I’m stoked on it! I gave Karl, the Animal designer, a selection of all the pictures I thought would look cool, and then he came back and showed me what he had created. From day one we both had the same idea of how we wanted it to look and feel, so everything worked out pretty naturally, and that’s just how I like it.’ Blake Samson also commented: ‘I've been riding for Animal now for 7 years, and I will never look back or change anything. It's been 7 years of RAD times! ‘Being asked by Animal to be involved with designing my own collection is a dream come true. Being part of everything from the picking of fabric, colours, design and look was perfect. Sitting down with the guys in the design office and working through the whole process of my series was a great experience and a great insight into what goes on behind the scenes! ‘The most challenging part of the process was making something different and unique. Something that I would always wear and what others would like to wear both casually and for riding. ‘My inspiration for my range has to be colours, which helped to create my two unique hoodies. I will definitely be rocking these with my “Riding Dirty” t-shirt. If it's a hot one this summer, my two striped tees and skinny denim shorts will be up there as well.’
