Swedish fashion retail giant H&M has revealed the names of the eight finalists for its annual H&M Design Awards, now in its third year.

The H&M Design Award is a design competition for students at selected design schools around the world. During the past nine months, H&M’s Head of Design Ann-Sofie Johansson and her team have travelled around the globe putting together their shortlist of candidates for 2014, who have been selected from 30 design schools (including six prestigious British schools) across 12 countries.

The finalists have each been awarded €5,000 and have the opportunity to present their work to the grand jury – which includes fashion designer Erdem Moralioglu, actress Michelle Dockery, style expert Michelle Harper, British Vogue executive fashion editor Serena Hood, Vogue Italy senior fashion editor Sara Maino, as well as H&M’s creative Head of Design Johansson, and H&M’s creative advisor Margareta van den Bosch – who will decide the overall winner.

The winner will receive €50,000(£41,400) and the chance to present their winning collection at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm on 28th January, before developing selected pieces from their collection to be sold at selected H&M stores this autumn.

Johansson said of the finalists: "Each has their own unique creativity, amazing technical skills and the vision to push fashion forward."

These eight candidates, who were selected from a pool of 26 semi-finalists, include Camilla Blasé Woodman and Xiao Li who both studied at London’s Royal College of Art.  They will be joining Eddy Anemian (La Cambre, Brussels), Jia Hua (Parsons, New York), Devon Halfnight Leflufy (Royal Academy of Fine Arts, Antwerp), Lina Michal (Beckmans College of Design, Stockholm),  Sophie Sälekari (Aalto University School of Art, Helsinki) and Henriette Tilanuas (ArtEZ Institute of the Arts, Arnhem) in a bid to win this once-in-a-lifetime prize.

You can vote for your favourite designer’s collection to win the People’s Prize (and a three-month internship at designer and jury member Erdem’s studio) by visiting www.designaward.hm.com, and also be in with the chance to win a trip for two to Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week in Stockholm! Simply tweet your feedback to your favourite designer after voting, and you could be one of three tweeters to win a visit to this stunning city, including flight, hotel and front row seats on the H&M Design Award winner's show.
