What does your summer look like? Stacking shelves in the local supermarket? Serving drunks in the bar down the road?
Some summer jobs can open up much more adventure.
The G.Os (or Great Organisers) scheme from Club Med offers a range of roles across their 68 resorts worldwide and currently welcomes staff from 105 different nationalities.
Club Med is currently looking to hire additional British resort staff members to work at the bar, the reception or in the childcare clubs across its resorts.
To find out more about working at Club Med we spoke to Mario Hall a choreographer at the company’s resort in Opio in the south of France.
What is your job like?
My job role in Club Med is as the choreographer. I create the shows during the night time entertainment for the guests. It also entails teaching different services that work on the resort and ensuring that they are show ready.
Is this a job area you have always wanted to go into?
It has been a great passion of mine to choreograph and dance and being able to get this job in Club Med is a stepping stone and the starting point into my career as a choreographer.
How did you get your job?
I got the job by applying to a job advert online then by going to a casting.
What have you learned working for Club Med?
I have learned a lot of things while working with Club Med, from learning a new language, to meeting many different people from all around the world, to learning more about who I am as a person. Working for Club Med has made me understand the importance to experience and embrace the different cultures and don’t be afraid to try new experience.
What is your most memorable moment working for Club Med?
I have many memorable moments working for Club Med and performing on stage with fellow GO teams has to be one of the best moments for me. This is because the fun that we have on stage is amazing, to take people who are not professional dancers and turn them into performers is what makes me enjoy my job. The GO’s love to participate in the animation around the resort and are willing to learn dance.
What is your working environment like?
I love the working environment because it’s not only working in your field but its making a connection with the guest, as a GO getting feedback from the guest has helped me in my job even more but not only their feedback but the energy of the guest, when you can talk to them about their experiences or even talk about topics around the world it makes you enjoy your job 10 times more.
Where do you see yourself in five years?
I see myself in five years as an international choreographer not just for club med but for other resorts as well being able to share my creations with the world.
Do you have any advice for students who are looking for a similar position?
My advice for anyone who is looking to do a similar position or just to work abroad is to go for it, learn about the different cultures, have new experiences, create great friendships from people all across the globe, if it wasn’t for Club Med half the people I know now I wouldn’t have known.
