The intimate setting of Studio 2 at Trafalgar Studios has been transformed into the motel room of JD, a West Virginian with a huge heart.

The play follows JD on his quest to convince Mitchell to be his roommate despite interruptions from his meth-head neighbour Marlene and her thuggish boyfriend, Tommy.

In spite of the horrifically long title, the play itself is a mere 70 minutes, and it's 70 minutes of absolute joy.

The set is perfectly designed and consumes the studio theatre making the audience not only voyeurs, but it really makes them feel as though they are sat within the action.

The setup is detailed and clear but the real success of the play lies within its vibrant cast and brilliant writing.

Each characterisation is sublimely clear; almost verging on the extreme, meaning the audience can really engage and understand the characters. This is a play where there is no room for subtlety, and this is wholly embraced.

The physicality of each individual is absolutely brilliant, particularly Melanie Gray as Marlene, and Robert Moloney as Mitchell. Both were clear and precise throughout the whole piece, really embodying their characters.

Alex Ferns as Tommy provides us with tension, anger and bellowing laughs. His crook of a character is a stark contrast to our leading man JD, who is written beautifully. A funny, heart-warming character and writer Keith Stevenson plays him sensitively.

Quite a simple play, but nonetheless, it is a play filled to the brim with joy. A sublime cast and hilarious writing makes Out There on Fried Meat Ridge Rd. a blissful evening.

Out There on Fried Meat Ridge Rd. will play at Trafalgar Studio 2 until 3rd June.

Tickets are available for £30, £25, £20 from the Trafalgar Studios Box Office at http://www.atgtickets.com or on 0844 871 7632
