If you love to write, you’re going to want to pay attention to our latest competition...

Over the next few weeks The National Student will be teaming up with new coming of age comedy Mistress America, to bring you the opportunity to have your short story professionally printed in a hardback volume!

Sundance Favourite Mistress America, the quirky coming-of-age comedy from Noah Baumbach, stars Golden Globe nominee Greta Gerwig and Lola Kirke (whose older sister Jemima you might recognise as starring alongside Lena Dunham in HBO’s Girls).

The film tells the story of Tracy (Kirke), a lonely English student in New York, whose life takes a decidedly more exciting turn when she is taken in by her adventurous and alluring soon-to-be stepsister, Brooke (Gerwig.) The film will be released on Digital HD on 7th December.

To be in with a chance of winning, you need to submit your own 2,000 word short story on the theme of “Growing Up” to The National Student website before 7th December.

To do that, you’ll need to sign up as a National Student writer here:

Full instructions will come after signing up.

If you’re already a National Student writer, just submit your story as you would any other article.

The best entries will be published in a dedicated section on The National Student. The winner will then be selected by us, and will have their work professionally printed. More details on that to follow...

We think this is a pretty exciting prize, and we cannot WAIT to read your entries. Here’s the criteria again:

What? 2,000 word (or less) short stories based on the theme of “Growing Up”

When? Within the next month – before 7th December

How? Via The National Student website.

Why? To be in with the chance of having your story being professionally printed in a hardback volume

Good luck!

Mistress America is released on Digital HD in the UK on 7th December, courtesy of Twentieth Century Fox Home Entertainment.
