The Devil Wears Prada? On Broadway?

Groundbreaking. If there's anything that beats the 2006 hit with Meryl Streep and Anne Hathaway, it's a musical rendition of it.

Based on Lauren Weisberger's 2003 novel, the story follows a young journalist at a fashion magazine as second assistant to Miranda Priestly (Streep), the editor.

If it so happens, the show will be produced renowned Kevin McCollum, following his successful productions of Rent, Avenue Q and newly famed Hand to God and Something Rotten!

His aforementioned newest pieces have racked up 15 Tony nominations this year.

Similarly to Disney reinventing classical fairytales, theatrical producers have turned more and more to popular films, with Legally Blonde, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, Matilda and The Lion King having extremely successful theatrical runs.

Billy Elliot, for example, has just turned ten.

Though the cast is yet to be announced, Streep has always talked about returning to stage after starring in the film version of Into The Woods and Hathaway is known to be interested in musical theatre.
