London’s top immersive cinema experience Secret Cinema has cancelled its sell out Back To The Future event for the second night.

Thursday’s opening night was cancelled just hours before guests were due to arrive due to “unavoidable circumstances.”

This afternoon ticketholders have received an email saying that tonight’s performance has also been cancelled.

Secret Cinema has also posted the following message to its Facebook page:

To all our audience,

Unfortunately we have no choice but to cancel tonight’s performance.

Secret Cinema has been running safe arts events for 10 years and on this occasion we have come across a number of issues that we have not experienced previously.

The site is looking spectacular so please standby for further information about Saturday night’s event.

As you can imagine we are hugely disappointed and share the immense frustration you are all feeling.

It goes on to advise on whom ticketholders should contact to rearrange, and lists the available dates.

The cancellation comes despite the company saying yesterday that they were “working tirelessly to make sure that this spectacular event will go ahead.”

A reason for the cancellation has not been given.

Secret Cinema uses elaborate set design, costume and role play to full immerse its audience into the world of the film. Audience members are not told of the location, which is designed to reflect what is on screen, until the last minute.

The Back To The Future event was due to be held in Hackney Wick, and Twitter has been rife with rumours that an unexploded World War Two bomb has been found in the area:

Tickets for the event cost £53.50 and had completely sold out. Customers are being offered a full refund, or the chance to rebook for another date.

Predictably, people on twitter are not that happy about it:
