Jonny RottenJohnny Rotten, of the Sex Pistols and Public Image Ltd, is to take to the stage - joining the cast of hit musical Jesus Christ Superstar as King Herod on a North American tour.

And that's not all - he'll be starring alongside JC Chasez of 'N Sync and Michelle Williams of Destiny's Child.

It's hardly a casting that could've been predicted. So, with the Andrew Lloyd Webber production kicking off later this year, let’s take a look at some other popular music and screen figures who have taken their fancy at the Broadway business...

1. Alexandra Burke

The winner of the fifth series of The X Factor announced at the end of last month that she is to take over from Beverly Knight in the musical version of The Bodyguard. She claimed that it would be a ‘real privilege’ to take over from the role that Whitney Houston made famous.

2. Matt Lucas

Actor and comedian Matt Lucas, best known for his character roles in Little Britain, took to the stage for Les Miserables 25th Anniversary show as the Inn Keeper. The Hollywood version of the film saw a different perspective on Lucas’s stage character, having cast Ali G and Borat actor Sacha Baren Cohen.

3. Lea Michele

Before she rocked the Glee club as nerd Rachel Berry, she was rocking Broadway musicals. Previous roles included a Young Cosette in Les Miserables, and Wendla in rock musical Spring Awakening.

4. Daniel Radcliffe

The Harry Potter prodigy made his musical debut in March 2011 starring in the revivial of ‘How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying.’ This was his first singing appearance, after having appeared in play ‘Equus’ - which caused some controversy as it required a 17-year-old Radcliffe to appear nude on stage.

5. Joan Jett

Rocker Joan Jett, of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, appeared in the Rocky Horror Show revival on Broadway as character Columbia in 2000.  The 55-year-old singer has many screen appearances to her name, including sitcom Ellen and 1999 show Freaks and Geeks.

Jesus Christ Superstar begins its tour on the 9th June in New Orleans. Tickets are booking for the first 22 shows on April 11th.
