8 doughnuts you should treat yourself with, even after Doughnut Week is over

National Doughnut week has just finished of course, this is now no excuse to stuff ourselves with sugary treats and not count the calories. Or so you think. But some doughnuts are just so good, you need to have them all year round. 

And while Krispy Kreme’s doughnuts will always have a honourable place in our hearts, we have prepared a list of ten of the best doughnut places in the UK, where you can fest upon flavours such as banana dulce de leche, Oreo cream and even katsu curry. There are just no rules when it comes to doughnuts!

1.       Dunn’s Bakery

The bakery that started it all. Well, maybe they did not come with the doughnut recipe BUT they were the ones who decided to make an event about it. Choc-chip, caramel & custard, iced jam doughnut and iced sprinkle ring doughnuts. We’ll have them all

2.       Crosstown Bakery

A real doughnut craftsmanship with exquisite flavours such as yuzu and passionfruit, matcha tea, earl grey custard, lemon and thyme, sour cherry and stout. All freshly baked each morning! If you live around Soho you have no excuses!

3.       HOLE- Hot Doughnuts and Fresh Coffee- The Katsu Curry Doughnut


Although we are not sure whether it’s still on offer as they seem to have gone through some rebranding, we certainly cannot skip past it. Katsu Curry in a deep-fried coating. My fitness instructor is screaming in horror, but the heart wants what it wants.

4.       Dum Dum Donutterie

A 10 inch giant doughnut for your friend’s birthday (or for your own indulgence). Look no further, Dum Dum Donutterie can do this and a whole lot more when it comes to catering to a doughnut-lover’s party. The Zebra, Strawberries and cream, Cronutellla, Giant Yum Yum, Almond and Pistachio, Blueberry, and Boston Crème- these are all possible fillings for your giant doughnut. Who says it’s an easy choice?

5.       Red’s True BBQ

You might wonder what a restaurant is doing here but we assure you they deserve their place. Yes, they don’t make doughnuts as per se but their Doughnut Bacon Cheeseburger is a right treat. Beef patty, melted cheese, smoked peppered bacon, crispy onions and Dirty sauce. All between two sweet glazed donuts AND served with frickles. Holy mother of doughnuts!

6.       HOLE- Hot Doughnuts and Fresh Coffee


Yes, they got two mentions because of the very different and unique nature of their deep-fried delicacies. They have been praised for being really light and not greasy at all. The secret- all doughnuts are made from a single yeasted dough recipe. The recipe contains organic stone-ground flour from Lindley Mills, unrefined organic cane sugar, sea salt, cage free eggs and whole butter, and are fried in non-GMO rice bran oil. Flavours include vanilla glazed, toasted almond sesame cinnamon and cocoa rub. There is a weekly special as well.

7.       Fisher and Donaldson

If you know it you know it. If you don’t, then you definitely should. This doughnut has such a cult following, it has its own page on the F&G website and it’s own hashtag (#dfdfudge). They say: “ It's rare in this world that people fall in love instantly but it happens in our shops every day.
The Fisher & Donaldson Fudge Doughnut commands Wikipedia pages, military movements over continents and is as yet unmatched for it's incredible taste, passionately loyal supporters and jealous admirers.
The tried-and-tested combination of creamy fudge icing atop a light, fluffy doughnut and sweet, irresistible custard has given our fudgies a global reputation. As a result, we now get through 10 tonnes of fudge and 20 tonnes of custard every year.

8.       Eis Café

The little Birmingham café has become famous for its monster desserts and locoshakes. If you worship desserts, that place would be your heaven. As for their doughnuts-  Malteasers and peanut butter with brownie stuffed doughnuts. Blueberry cream cheese topped with white chocolate and crumble biscoff. They are a certified meal by itself.
