Remember that classic Easter tale of digging for dildos in the dirt? No!
Regardless, that’s exactly what happens in the French-speaking Belgian region of Wėpion near Wallonia. On 8th April 4,000 participants, geared-up with wellies and spades, will get down and dirty to dig for 800 buried sex toys!
It’s mainly for women, but 200 men can join in if they agree to dress for the occasion.
Smut and hyperbole aside the day does have a serious side. It donates profits to charities supporting women’s health including breast cancer awareness charity Think Pink and the ASBL association in Belgium. There’s also zumba lessons, pole dancing, twerk workshops, trampolines and free wellbeing sessions for those who don’t just want to dig around in the mud for a new phallic friend.
It’s a new type of Easter get away for women to find a different type of Easter Rabbit!
It is also exactly the kind of event you’d find in Wallonia, a place with villages named Silly, Bra, Ham and Dance and surrealism seems to be a way of life. Less than two hours away from Calais this is a strange gem of a place well worth a visit.
