There are hundreds of gems in Birmingham - not only are there hundreds of shops, restaurants and bars, but it's also a city filled with culture and life.

Here are five things you can do for free in Britain's second largest city.

Birmingham Museum & Art Gallery

Housed in one of the city's Grade II listed buildings, meaning the art on display isn't the only eye-catching thing about it - the architecture is stunning. The museum's 40 collections range from the Staffordshire Hoard to The Pre-Raphaelites, and it also features a specific collection about the history of Birmingham since the medieval era.

Had such an awesome day looking around the museum & art gallery

Library of Birmingham

The Library of Birmingham opened in September 2013 after costing nearly £200 million to be built. Not only is the library home to thousands of books, but also features The Shakespeare Memorial Room, which was built for the city's old library and was relocated to the top floor of the Library of Birmingham (the room features the most important Shakespeare collection in Britain). Panoramic views of the whole of the city are on offer from the library's two balcony gardens and are definitely not to be missed.

Ikon Gallery

Opened as an initiative to encourage the public to engage in contemporary art, the Ikon Gallery opened in 1965. Different to many other museums, the Ikon features artwork in hundreds of different forms, from sculpture to sound and painting to photography.

Also popped into the gallery to do some work for my summer brief :)
