The mystery of the open road beckons!

06th February 2012 10:50:07

The hotly anticipated launch of the film ‘On the Road’, the adaption of Jack Kerouac’s classic novel, is due for release in 2012, and our very own Sam Riley (Brighton Rock) has been cast in the lead role as Kerouac’s alter-ego Sal Paradise. Based loosely on Kerouac’s spontaneous road trips across mid-century America, ‘On the Road’ is not only a great read, but the film will surely be a cinematic experience to savour with Brazilian Director Walter Salles (Motorcycle Dairies) at the helm.

American road tripSome sixty years after the book was written, the classic American road trip remains synonymous the world over with the ideas of freedom and adventure and has evolved into an iconic experience that continues to inspire generations of travellers. However, with fuel prices topping $3 bucks a gallon compared to a paltry 18 cents back in 1950, the costs of hitting the highway and cruising across America Thelma and Louise style, can mount up. But don’t despair, one company is making the Great American Road trip affordable for all.

TrekAmerica, North America’s small group adventure specialist for 18 to 38’s, has criss-crossed the continent countless since they began operating tours back in 1972. They were recently voted 'Best Tour Operator to the USA' at the British Travel Awards and their tours offer something different from the ordinary package holiday, combining all the benefits of independent travel with the cost savings and security of a small group adventure.

The mystery of the great open road beckons as strong as ever, and it could be calling your name – simple enter TrekAmerica’s Ultimate Road Trip competition and go in to win an exclusive 10 day American road trip, and the chance to invite 7 lucky mates along for the ride.
