Many people’s lives are dominated by fitness and the health industry. Each week more and more apps are added to the likes of the App Store and Google Play to allow people the opportunity to take their fitness hobby with them wherever they go.

With more than 15,000 apps on the App Store alone promoting fitness programmes and smartphones equipped with precise movement sensors, you can now stay on track to achieve your desired goals, sometimes without the use of an expensive gym membership.

Ready to work out? Down below is a run-down of top five fitness apps you can download on your mobile phones.

1. Couch to 5K.

This is possibly the best app a beginner to running could download. It starts off easy for the user with a mix of running and walking intervals which slowly build up your stamina and speed.

It does this in such a way that slowly reduces the amount of walking you do until you are running the full 5k in 8 weeks.

Many people use this app to raise money for charities when they know the outcome will be them running 5k.

You can get the app for little less than £3 for Android here and for iOS here.

2. 7 Minute Workout Challenge.

This app is great for those of you who may have a very busy schedule, want to keep fit but don’t necessarily have the time for it.

It requires seven minutes of your time each day and each day it incorporates 12 moves, which don’t require equipment and gives you clear set instructions.

The best part of this app is that you can get your phone out wherever you are and complete the workout anywhere – although I would guess you’d get some funny looks on public transport or in your local supermarket.

You can buy the app for under £3 on the Google Play or on the App Store.

3. Zombies, RUN!

This app runs like ‘Couch to 5k’ in the sense it starts off with running and walking intervals.

The way this works, however, is quite peculiar; it puts you in the scenario of a zombie apocalypse – making you walk when you are safe and ‘running for your life’ when you are chased by a horde of undead.

This app also has a setting if you a more of a walker than a runner, it will make you speed up to a light jog rather than a sprint.

It may not be suitable for those of you who are easily scared though, at times it can be quite creepy and unsettling, especially if you are on a late night or very early morning jog.

Start your escape sessions from the undead downloading the app for Android here and iOS here.

4. The 30 Day Fitness Challenges.

These apps run in a series – there is the 30-day push-ups, slim thighs and squat challenge.

The choice is completely yours, do one, do two, complete them all if you wish, each day the chosen exercise progressively gets harder to complete and builds your muscle in the chosen body area.

They gradually challenge you until you are doing 100 squats without you even thinking about it.

They were a huge craze at the start of the year with many posting before and after picks on social media so it proves these apps can work if you stick to it and keep your mind on your goals.

Get the app for free on the Play Store for Android or in the App Store for your iOS device.

5. My FitnessPal.

This app not only provides suggested exercises for you to do each day so you get the look you desire and tell the app about at the registration page.

It will also provide you with a weekly meal planner so you can keep track on your healthy eating, which will boost and help you in your overall appearance.

On top of this, it also has a calorie counter where you can search what you have eaten or had a drink in the online database.

Once you find the item in the database, the app tells you how many calories are in it, lets you add it to your personal profile so you can keep a track of what you’ve eaten and how many calories you have consumed each day.

You can download the app for free for Android or iOS.
