Although England is not in the best of spirits at the moment following Wednesday’s disappointing semi-final game, rest assured morale is sure to be lifted after halftime on Sunday as the first trailer for the new series of Doctor Who is revealed. Fans will finally get the chance to see Jodie Whittaker in the eponymous role of the Doctor after a year long wait since she was announced as Peter Capaldi's replacement. The BBC has announced that the trailer for the eleventh series of the popular sci-fi drama will be shown at halftime of Sunday’s highly anticipated game which, despite England sadly not being in it, is still set to attract 10 million viewers from the UK alone. Jodie Whittaker’s casting as the thirteenth Doctor marks the first time a woman has been cast in the iconic role. Her companions on the show are set to be played by Bradley Walsh (who currently presents game show The Chase on ITV), Tosin Cole and Mandip Gill. It has recently been revealed that the BBC is taking legal action in the US after a clip of one of Whittaker’s scenes from the upcoming series was leaked online. A spokesperson for the BBC said ‘[We] will strive to protect our programme-makers, audiences and licence fee payers from any breaches of security – ensuring Doctor Who fans enjoy the final and fully completed version of the episode when it premieres.’ The show is set to return to our screens in September.
