Yet another London MCM has come and gone, delivering an electric experience on bank holiday weekend, and as we try to come to terms with going back from the fun sunny weekend, we have compiled the highlights of this year.
The UK’s largest pop culture convention took place at the ExCeL London centre between 25th and 27th May, bringing together hundreds of special guests, cosplayers, artists, vendors and casual fans of all things geeky and nerdy.
Beyond the countless stalls, tournaments and lectures, the highlight of a convention is all the meetups and talks with guest stars, and this year MCM London really stepped up their game.
Riding in on the successful box office of Deadpool 2, some of our favourite mutants, Brianna Hildebrand and Stefan Kapicic, who reprised their roles from the first movie as Negasonic Teenage Warhead and Colossus respectfully, attended the con. Rising star Zazie Beetz, who brought Domino to life was unable to attend.
Letitia Wright, who plays Black Panther’s show stealer tech genius Shuri, was also at the con. With an additional appearance in Infinity Wars and a small cameo in Ready Player One, she needs no introduction, but before coming to the big screen the British actress has starred in small screen dramas such as Black Mirror, Top Boy, Humans and Doctor Who.
Despite recent news of Lucifer, the cult show he plays lead in, Tom Ellis still made an appearance at the con. He talked about the movement to save it (with the #SaveLucifer movement on Twitter) and took the time to thank everyone for trying to generate support.
The real heart of the Netflix Marvel series, Rosario Dawson also made an appearance. First appearing on Daredevil as Claire Temple, she has gone on to reprise her role in subsequent shows Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist and The Defenders.
Orange is the New Black stars Taryn Manning and Jackie Cruz showed up ahead of the release of the sixth season of the long-running Netflix series. They were joined by other stars of the small screen such as Khary Payton and Cooper Andrews from The Walking Dead, and ‘Queen of Geek’ Felicia Day.
Other guests included Michael Biehn (who played in Aliens, The Terminator), Kevin Conroy (who appeared as Batman in Batman: The Animated Series), Taylor Gray (Star Wars Rebels), and Tara Sands (Pokémon, Yu-Gi-Oh!) and Overwatch heroes Lucie Pohl and Gaku Space.
Convention-goers also had the pleasure to attend an exclusive screenings, including Marvel’s Cloak and Dagger, which is premiering on the 8 June.
