Previous seasons of the television series have featured haunted houses, asylums and freak shows, but the next season of American Horror Story is set to be the scariest yet.

Creator and producer of the show, Ryan Murphy, revealed to Andy Cohen on Wednesday evening that series seven will be about the U.S. presidential election.

Speaking on the Watch What Happens Live show, Murphy said: "I don't have a title but the season that we began filming in June is gonna be about the election that we just went through, so I think that will be interesting for a lot of people."

When Cohen asked Murphy if Trump was set to feature he simply responded with an 'Uh, maybe', causing speculation that there will infact be a character based on U.S. President Donald Trump.

Back in January, American Horror Story was confirmed for an eighth and ninth series with fan favourites Sarah Paulson and Evan Peters set to return.

It will be interesting to see what happens on the upcoming season and who will play Trump if he does indeed appear. Prepare to relive the most terrifying event of 2016, and then some.

American Horror Story: Season 7 is set to return in the autumn.
