A Bristol University cleaner broke down in tears after a group of students surprised him by giving him enough money to go on holiday this summer.

The students fundraised £1500 following a GoFundMe campaign to allow him to go abroad to Jamaica with his wife.

Herman Gordon, who won the hearts of the students at the University of Bristol, was presented with an envelope enclosing the money along with a note.

On the note, the students expressed their thanks, saying: “We would like to thank you for the positive energy you have given to us throughout the years.

“You have brightened many of our days and we want you to know that we love and appreciate you.”

Upon receiving the gift, Herman dries his eyes and hugs the students saying: “God bless you man, God bless.”

He adds: “I want to say thank you for everything you’ve done, God bless every one of you.”

The students filmed the emotional surprise and posted it on Twitter.

James Heale, a student at Bristol University, shared the video on his Twitter page stating: “Bristol Uni students often get a lot of stick but stories like this show the good we can do.”

The GoFundMe page used to raise the money had over 200 supporters, however the students who ran the campaign, decided to remain anonymous.

Releasing a statement via the Birtruths Facebook page, an anonymous 'truth' page for Bristol Uni, the students said:

“We would like to thank everyone who contributed to this incredible gift. It is truly amazing what we can achieve when we come together.

“It is thanks to your generosity that we’ve been able to raise £1,500- meaning both Herman and his wife will be able to visit Jamaica for the first time in four years!”
