Former Manchester United midfielder Paul Scholes has been hired as the new manager at Oldham Athletic, the former England international was cleared by the English Football League to take over at Boundary Park despite owning 10% of Salford City. Scholes spent his entire playing career at Manchester United scoring over 150 goals in more than 700 apperances for the Red Devils in a 20 year stay at Old Trafford. Since retiring scholes has been eager to get back into the game and this saw him become a shareholder at Salford as well as a director. However, Scholes has now resigned from his position from Salford but will remain a shareholder. Scholes has signed an 18-month contract at Oldham and insists now is the right time to step into management. Scholes said: "I've prepared well for it, I've watched the team play and I think they are capable of winning a lot of games. If they don't, it's my fault. "It's a squad that should be pushing for promotion - that might be out of reach for this season, but certainly next season." Owner Abdallah Lemsagam is more than happy with the appointment of Scholes, a lifetime fan of Oldham Athletic, who had already been interviewed before the job was given to previous manager Richie Wellens. "It's no secret how much he has wanted this job in the past and how much he loves this club, so I'm very happy to bring him into our family at Oldham Athletic," said owner Abdallah Lemsagam. "Paul will have my backing 100% and hopefully we can work together to bring success back to this club."
