Despite being a runaway favourite with bookmakers Anthony Joshua did not win the BBC’s Sports Personality of the Year last night.
The English heavyweight sensation was odds-on at 1/9 but it was track hero Mo Farah that claimed the prize despite the same bookmakers rating his chances as 33/1.
After beating Charles Martin to claim his first world title, Anthony Joshua has continued to wow boxing fans and sports fans in general. The Watford born man has a perfect record in the ring with 20 wins, no losses and no draws. All of those wins came by way of knockout.
Joshua also won what was arguably the biggest fight of 2017. When he defeated Wladimir Klitschko at Wembley the whole world watched on and AJ added the IBO and WBA titles to the IBF World Championship he already held.
Farah triumphed despite being an outsider and says he “can’t stop staring at the trophy”. He was unable to attend though and explained “I am sorry I could not be there. My kid has not been well… I didn’t imagine I was ever going to win this but anything can happen if you work hard you can achieve your dreams”.
