Williams’ management released a statement at the time of his arrest saying he denied the accusations.
He is due to appear before Walsall and Aldridge magistrates on 11 October alongside a second man, his friend Jamien Nagadhana who is facing a charge of serious sexual assault.
West Midlands said in a statement: "Police have charged two men with sexual offences following an allegation of rape at a Wolverhampton hotel in December 2016.
"Oritsé Williams, age 31, from Croydon, London, has been charged with rape. Jamien Nagadhana, aged 31, from Hounslow, London, has been charged with assault by penetration."
In 2008 Williams shot to fame on TV talent show The X Factor where he competed as part of the boy band JLS. After the band split in 2013 he went on to pursue a solo career and was in Wolverhampton on the night of the alleged incident performing his new material.
