Ever wondered which celebs went to university and what they studied?Well we've listed twelve famous faces who all spent years grafting away at their degrees, and while they may have thousands, or millions, of followers now, it may be reassuring to learn that many big celebrities were once in the same position as the rest of us! 

These celebs went to uni: 

 1. Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson

General studies in criminology and physiology, University of Miami

With over 100 million followers, American actor Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson scores in the top ten most-followed celebrities on Instagram, according to Statista. However, it was humble beginnings for The Rock who earned a degree in General Studies in Criminology and Physiology at the University of Miami, under full scholarship. He graduated in 1995 with a Bachelor’s degree and enjoyed great success as an American football player during his time at university.

Emma Watson shot to fame when she was cast as talented witch Hermione Granger in the Harry Potter film franchise. Just like brainbox Hermione, it turns out that Emma is just as academically gifted. After wrapping up filming for Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 2, Emma began studying English Literature at the prestigious Brown University in Rhode Island, near New York. She even enrolled at Oxford as a visting student for a year, before graduating in 2014.

3. Mayim Bialik

Neuroscience, University of California

Another actress who shares shockingly similar qualities to the character they play is The Big Bang Theory star Mayim Bialik who has a PhD in Neuroscience from the University of California. According to CNN, her research was undertaken on “obsessive compulsive disorder among people with Prader-Willi syndrome, a rare condition in which the hypothalamus malfunctions”.

4. Donald Glover

Dramatic Writing, New York University

Donald Glover, a.k.a Childish Gambino, graduated from New York University’s Tisch School of the Arts in 2006 with a degree in Dramatic Writing. In his university years, Glover self-produced his first independent mixtape.

During his time at university Prince William was apparently referred to by friends as “Steve” in a bid to reduce drawing unwanted attention. He originally began reading Art History but after deciding the subject wasn't for him he switched to studying Geography. 

6. Duchess of Cambridge

The Duchess of Cambridge, previously Kate Middleton, met her prince in their university halls, St Salavator's at Scotland's University of St. Andrews in 2001. She graduated with a 2:1 degree and went on to work as a photographer before becoming a full time royal.

Robert Rinder, a.k.a ITV's Judge Rinder, studied a degree in Politics, Modern History, and Art at the University of Manchester, graduating in 2001 before later heading for the bar. 

8. Will Ferrell

Sports Information, University of Southern California

It may be a shock to learn that Will Ferrell studied Sports Information before going on to achieve worldwide recognition as a comedian and actor. During his time at the University of Southern California, it is thought that Ferrell planned to pursue a career in sports broadcasting before he realised his true passion for acting.

9. J.K. Rowling

French with Greek and German, University of Exeter

It’s no surprise that best selling children's J.K. Rowling is a university graduate. She developed her exceptional writing skills at the University of Exeter where she studied French with Greek and German, graduating in 1986 after taking a study year abroad in Paris.

When you think of Harry Hill and his iconic horn-rimmed glasses and silly antics, you surely wouln't imagine he was a trained neurosurgeon. But before his career took a funny U-turn Harry Hill studied neurosurgery at the University of London and even practiced as a doctor in the capital.

At the tender age of sixteen John Legend took up studiying English at the University of Pennsylvania where he was an active member of the university acapella group Counterparts.

12. Cole Sprouse

Geographical Information Systems, New York University

After his time on the show The Suite Life of Zach and Cody ended and before he was cast in Netflix’s Riverdale, Cole Sprouse had time to squeeze in a degree in Geographical Information Systems at New York University. On Live With Kelly and Ryan, Cole explained his unusual degree as being “basically like virtual cartography”.
