City University will launch a student radio station next week as an addition to the already well-established student media platform.
Jonross Swaby, the man who made it all happen, said: “We will be covering news affecting students at City University and to a lesser extent news that are of interest to City students.”
Student Sofie Härder, 21, mentioned after Tuesday’s meeting that she thinks it is a good idea to set up a radio station as an alternative to the student newspaper because it will make it easier for people to keep up with university news.
Mr Swaby also announced the name of the station, which will be City on Air, in line with the other student media outlets at City University – City Offline, the student newspaper, and City Online, the newspaper website.
The radio station will broadcast two programmes every Tuesday from 7pm to 7:35pm, where one programme will cover news and the other will be a debating programme.
Mr Swaby thinks that setting up a radio station has been a request from the students for years, and that now is the perfect time to start using the multi million facilities in the journalism department at City University.
Another student, Freyja Hudson, 19 years old, when asked how she liked the idea of the radio station, said: “I think it will be a lot of fun both for the people producing it and for the listeners.”
Both radio programmes will be available for download, and people that are not a part of the university will also be able to tune in to the live programmes.
