Sankeys Manchester is closing down

Sankeys Manchester is to close down with immediate effect, according to a statement posted on its Facebook page.
The Sankeys Disco Bus, which shipped students between Fallowfield and AncoatsAccording to the club's management, "the entire building has been sold to a residential property developer who intends to turn it into apartments." They had been in discussion with the property management agents of Beehive Mill, in which the club is situated, for some time, they said. The club, in Ancoats, has a capacity of 1,200 and had just celebrated its most successful quarter for seven years, according to the post. Sankeys called the closure "a particularly bitter situation", but thanked the DJs and staff who have "smashed it over the last 6 months" and apologised "for how suddenly the change in circumstances has taken place." Whether or not Sankeys will be able to find a new home in Manchester to replace Beehive Mill hasn't yet been confirmed. Sankeys other clubs, in Ibiza, London and Tokyo, will continue to run as normal. A Sankeys Birmingham is set to open in March. See the full Facebook post on the Sankeys Manchester Facebook page here.
