The iconic Durham quartet, who have become one of the quintessential DIY punk bands of the moment, have just announced a new album, Love Keeps Kicking, along with the titular track, music video, and a tour. Their new album will be released on 5th April via Big Scary Monsters.

Martha exploded onto the DIY scene in 2012, and have since released two albums, three split releases with Spoonboy, Radiator Hospital, and Benny the Jet Rodriguez.

The single itself is characteristically eccentric, teeming with a vibrant, optimistic sound and high-pitched vocals. The refrain, the same as the title, is ostensibly a cheerful one, but the darker verses contrast sharply with it. In one instance, "love keeps kicking" is followed by "love keeps kicking the shit out of me", turning the hopeful epigraph into a brutal but energetic punch.

'Love Keeps Kicking' is jubilant and joyful, and the dissonance between lyrics and sound is something they seem to revel in – and rightly so. With each new release, Martha are cementing their place as DIY icons.
