Sweetener and the Pete Davidson breakup are still fresh, but Ariana wasted no time in dropping the ultimate break-up anthem.

Thank U Next

Released on Saturday night (November 3rd) before Saturday Night Live (featuring Davidson) aired on the East Coast, Ariana dropped a brand new single, giving the last word on ex-boyfriends. This empowering pop hit name checks Grande’s exes, including late boyfriend Mac Miller and former fiancé Pete Davidson.

‘Thank U, Next’ is not a diss track, rather a love letter to herself. Through the lyrics, Grande expresses gratitude to those who have entered and left her life, whilst reflecting on the lessons she learned in each relationship: “One taught me love / One taught me patience / And one taught me pain / Now I’m so amazing.”  The song is a declarative, honest, vulnerable, and all intertwined within a catchy bop. The soulful pop anthem leads way for new beginnings, with Grande’s heavenly vocals verifying the pop throne very much as her own.

In a poignant line, Ariana sings “Wish I could say thank you to Malcom / ‘Cause he was an angel” to pay homage to Mac Miller after his sudden passing in September earlier this year. Amid setbacks of the Manchester terrorist attack at a 2017 concert of hers as well as an engagement that ended quickly and publicly, the 'Sweetener' singer underlines that love heals all.

Ariana Grande begins her huge world tour in March, swooping across Canada and the USA. Whilst we eagerly wait for the announcement of UK dates, enjoy the latest cut from a potential upcoming album.
