Rising star BiG HEATH releases his first single ‘Switch Sides’, a moody yet uplifting grime banger, ahead of his upcoming debut EP. BiG HEATH is easily one of the most unique and enigmatic acts emerging in the UK rap scene. Starting rapping at the age of 10, HEATH found a creative outlet for overcoming his childhood stutter. Now, at just 20 years old, has American co-signs in the form of legendary hip-hop artists Nas and Freddie Gibbs, whilst also being championed by DJ Semtex here in the UK. Being a “fat” white boy from Cambridge, he is as different as it gets for rap, and his lyrics reflect that distinct persona. HEATH delivers his rhymes over a moody and dark trap beat with a hanging synth flute in the background for some added contrast. The hook is smooth and melodic, reminiscent of Post Malone, with the verse delivered with an up-tempo triplet flow. HEATH’s ability to switch styles from melody to bars is as seamless as the way he ‘switches sides’. Rapping about his stylistic and personal differences in the UK grime landscape makes for an engaging and uplifting experience. Well-known Mancunian artist Geko adds in a guest verse, which is equally as up-tempo and personal; a true return to form for Geko who delivers perfectly on this track. Melodic trap and grime working in excellent harmony, HEATH is truly a special talent. Catch him at Reading & Leeds Festival on the Radio 1Xtra stage and stay tuned for his upcoming EP, to be released in September.
