Hear This: Monograms - Sleep Cycle

The up-and-coming Brooklyn garage-psychedelic band is certainly developing a more mature, darker sound. Monograms, originally a solo venture of Ian Jacobs, have been quite active in the past few years, opening for the likes of Sløtface, Juan Wauters, GØGGS and Ezra Furman. Possibly their constant work led them to a new understanding of their individual style, which is evident in their electric and nerve-racking new single 'Sleep Cycle'. The track goes through an eloquent sound spectrum from dynamic bass chords and frantic drums, having the characteristic hues of 90s garage punk, to a hazier, more harmonious flow towards the end. The vibrant hook and unobtrusive, yet memorable vocals submerge the listener into an uncontrollable swirl of sound so vigorous, that it plays on repeat in your mind all day long. Monograms are definitely going through a certain metamorphosis style-wise, only to emerge with a new heavier, thicker and pleasantly darker sound.
