Hear This: Ariel Pink- Another Weekend

Ariel Pink’s solo track ‘Another Weekend’ is so appealingly sixties in style it wouldn’t have felt out of place in the soundtrack to The Boat that Rocked.
That said, the sound does feel fresh- shifting between distinctively 60s psychedelic highs into a more acoustically based chorus that grounds the track. Two very distinct and very different sounds dominate and interplay, the psychedelia wrestling with the melodic chorus:
“Another weekend out of my life / I'm either too shy or humble / Another weekend out of my life / Is gonna get me into trouble”
The song is about the lingering regret, mingling with euphoria, of a wild weekend and the two interlocking moods of the song fit in reflecting the complex interplay of emotions and lost memories Ariel Pink attempts to musically capture.
The tracks feels like witnessing a crushing, emotional Sunday morning in 2017, while looking through a pair of round lensed 60s glasses. It’s emotional, retro and immensely listenable.
