Some of you may already be free from the chains of academia for summer but for those of you still barricaded in the library, the end is in sight...

This recent heat wave has had everyone diving into their wardrobe to search for those long lost summer short shorts. The fire engines have been called numerous times to deal with the bins filled with the still glowing BBQ embers and an afternoon Pimms is the order of the day. Next?

Time to refresh the summer playlist. Have a browse through this collection of sweet new talent and your ears will feel just as relaxed as your ever-shaded eyes. 

MisterWives - Coloring outside the lines

The New York indie-pop band that gained massive attention from their debut single ‘Reflections’ is back with a vibrant alternative pop track. Coloring Outside The Lines’ is a tune that will undoubtedly have you dancing all summer.

HEBE - Take him down

Amsterdam-based singer/songwriter HEBE just announced a powerful, electronic, Lapsley-inspired tune. The up-tempo, electro-pop tune ‘Take Him Down’ combines defiant lyrics with dazzling melodies.

Best Youth – Sunbird

Portuguese duo Best Youth transport you to the land of synth-pop with the latest single from their re-released album Highway Moon. ‘Sunbird’ combines mesmerising harmonies with a sprinkling of shoegaze.

Holy Boy – Lay Your Hands

With a voice similar to Annie Lennox, brooding lyrics and a mystical layering of modulating synths, Helene Alexandra Jaeger could soon be a powerful player in the pop world.  ‘Lay Your Hands’ is an alluring taste of what’s to come from Jaeger’s upcoming self-titled debut EP out on 6th June. 

Hayden Calnin – Waves

Hayden Calnin may be a familiar name to you as his last single ‘Cut Love’ featured on the season finale of HBO’s Vampire Diaries. The new single ‘Waves’ is an electronic but cosy track that is very reminiscent of Bon Iver’s original style. 

99 Trees – Broken

99 Trees is a French/Danish duo currently based in Paris.  The shimmering single ‘Broken’ from their debut EP 21st Century focuses on a fresh, alternative sound heavily influenced by the 1960s era.

Rhys Lewis – I know the Feeling

Rhys Lewis is definitely headed up the ladder of success, with a voice that is as classic as Bill Withers and Carole King yet still youthful. ‘I Know The Feeling’ follows the success of his last two single releases that saw him shot to #1 on Spotify’s Viral Chart. This tune is on the catchier, happier side of things but with that contemporary blues and soul aspect that is his signature sound. 

Harlequiin – Melt in Olive

Harlequiin is a man with endless talents as a multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer who has toured with countless talented artists such as Paulo Nutini and Mount Kimbie. His debut track is a perfect fusion of soul, electronica and alt-indie music. ‘Melt In Olive’ hints at inspiration from the likes of Hudson Mohawke and integrates a beautiful array of luscious imagery. This taster of Harlequiin’s abilities signals the start of something epic. 

Elias - Thinking of You

This emotional piano ballad will have you sat back in awe. Elias’ affecting vocals and lyrics accompanied by his bewitching chord selection feels like a live performance with every listen. This songs vulnerable sound leaves you feeling humbled and ardently wiser.

Dagny - Wearing Nothing

With lyrics that express youthful optimism, Dagny creates the perfect summer anthem. Her vibrant voice, funky bass lines and electric drums places this ‘Wearing Nothing’ at the top of your summer BBQ playlist.
