New Band of The Day: Larry and His Flask
Share This Article:
Combining the ferocity of punk with the charm of bluegrass, Larry and His Jar represent the best of an area of American music that is rarely seen here in the UK. 'Big Ride' showcases the band at their best. Spiralling guitars and an unrelenting beat dominated a chaotic track that unravels into a swing interlude with impressively slick musicianship. With so much going on in the track it risked reducing chaos to clutter, but Larry and His Flask expertly avoid this as they send the track hurtling to a phenomenal conclusion. 'Hobo’s Lament' shows the softer side of the band. The twinkling guitar riff is contrasted to the tracks despondent lyrics, creating a false sense of romance. The song also reveals the band’s collective vocal ability, with a series of harmonies adding character to a track that by the bands high standards is relatively simple. Supporting Frank Turner on his on-going UK tour, fans will have a chance to catch their famously frantic live show that has gained the band so much acclaim in the US. The dates are as follows: 19th April - University of Leeds Refectory 21st April - Bristol Academy 24th April - Birmingham Academy 25th April - London Forum
