Novella are an all-girl neo-psychedelia trio based in London, playing modern psychedelic rock with a shoegaze twist.
Originating from Brighton, Novella are one of the up and coming bands to be on local label Italian Beach Babes with Mazes, Vision Fortune and Fear of Men.
They commenced a string of releases with a 7” in 2011 called ‘The Things You Do’, a guitar-heavy single bringing forth comparisons to Spacemen 3.
The trio then released their excellent self-titled debut EP in the second quarter of 2012, featuring ‘Don’t Believe Ayn Rand’, one of the trio’s best works to date.
It’s an intriguing track against the philosophies of Ayn Rand with lo-fi instrumentation and delicious vocal harmonies.
Novella recorded their EP with producer Rory Attwell, on the Lightship95 in London
This happens to be a recording studio situated on a boat opposite the 02 Arena in the Docklands.
They played a selection of shows in the summer of 2012, and then released a second 7” titled ‘Mary’s Gun’ in October.
‘Mary’s Gun’ is louder, faster and stronger, with a vision towards the future sound of Novella.
With the backing of established independent rock acts along the lines of Veronica Falls, PAWS and Echo Lake, Novella can and will achieve their goals.
