In the small, intimate venue of Pleasance Cellar, comedy duo Egg take you on what can only be described as a whirl-wind journey through stories.

Stories about their past, stories about sexism and completely random, yet hilarious, stories. A sketch show done completely by two young women of colour (the first of its kind that I’ve ever seen), Richard Pictures is funny, illuminating and quick-witted.

From sketches about male harassment, to the bad jobs they’ve done in the past, to dick pics – if you’re wanting to hear about feminism in a way that is truly funny and incredibly well written, this is the show for you. Anna and Emily use an impressively small amount of props and get-ups to create a huge variety of characters and scenarios that truly transport you into the world they are creating. As well as comedy, both are extremely talented at acting, and the nods to feminist thought throughout are cleverly put in.

The on-stage chemistry and friendship between Anna and Emily works fantastically – with just the right amount of animosity. Whether they’re playing themselves or one of the many characters they portray, the two of them work effortlessly together, bouncing off each other and finishing each other’s gags at just the right moment

Despite being a sketch show, there is something of a story arc and the show’s ending makes it entirely worth it. Throughout there are references to different sketches and previous references, as well as repeated audience engagement, meaning that you’re kept hooked throughout. Some sketches have a story of their own throughout the show too, which is entertaining.

So, if you’ve ever felt like there was a gap in the market for an intersectional feminist sketch show, then look no further. Richard Pictures fills this gaping hole and much more. And you get to find out why it’s called Richard Pictures, which is definitely a bonus.

Egg: Richard Pictures is at the Pleasance Courtyard at 6pm until August 26th. For more information and tickets click here.
