Four quirky places for unforgettable afternoon tea

There is nothing more quintessentially British than afternoon tea.

We have Anna, the seventh Duchess of Bedford, to thank for that. Due to her household’s fashionably late evening meal, she started requesting a tray of tea, sandwiches, and cakes to be brought to her room around 4 o’clock. This turned into a habit, which turned into an occasion for her to share with friends, and the rest, as they say, is history.

So to celebrate the history, we’ve gathered some one-of-a-kind afternoon teas from across the UK. From stunning settings and fun themes to cocktails and more substantial food offerings, we have something for everyone.

And with these teas, no one will notice whether you’re a cream first or jam first person.

1) Countess of York, Yorkshire

At the Countess of York, located in the National Railway Museum, you can take tea in an actual railway carriage. Their scones are baked to a traditional Yorkshire recipe and they offer a gluten-free menu as well. Indulge in an afternoon of history, loose leaf tea and homemade cakes!

2) Titanic Belfast, Belfast

From £27.50 per person, you can step back in time and dine in the Titanic Suite – featuring the stunning replica staircase – without even leaving the UK. At Titanic Belfast, every detail is taken care of to make sure that you get the full, opulent experience. The meal is even served with replica White Star Line crockery! And the cakes- mango cheesecake with summer berries, raspberry and lemon curd sponges- ah, it does sound like a dream.

3) The Edgbaston Boutique Hotel & Cocktail Lounge, Birmingham

Awarded the Best Afternoon Tea in 2017 by the Midlands Food Drink & Hospitality Awards, the Edgbaston offers an extended service of afternoon tea, stretching to 9 pm every day (with the exception of Saturdays, when tea is served until 6 pm). And with the stunning dry ice amuse bouche, you’re sure to have a few very grammable pictures.

4) The Berkeley, London

Eqsquisite white interior. Pret-a-porter afternoon tea. Belgravia. If this doesn't speak about the unique experience, then maybe you'd enjoy the fact that every six months you can have a whole new Afternoon tea experience.

As the season change, the Afternoon tea menu changes as well to reflect the newest catwalk trends, designs and colours. Ever dreamt of eating an Ellie Saab dress?

Wherever you go for your next Afternoon Tea with a twist, remember that it tastes twice as good with your favourite people.
