Wetherspoon pubs will lower their prices for a day next week

Wetherspoon pubs – much-loved by students for their low, reliable prices - will be cutting the price of food and drink by 7.5% for one day next week in response to high pub VAT rates.
Marking Thursday 13 September as Tax Equality Day, Wetherspoon hope the price cut will draw attention to the 20% VAT rate on food and drink that pubs currently face, compared to the zero VAT rate supermarkets have on food.
Wetherspoon founder and chairman Tim Martin said: “Customers coming to our pubs on Thursday September 13 will find the price of their food and drink is lower than normal.
“We are keen to highlight the amount customers could save if VAT in pubs was lowered permanently.”
Although the price reduction unfortunately won’t include alcohol in Scotland, you can otherwise expect a nice 7.5% discount off your Wetherspoon’s bill next Thursday across the UK.
