Directed by acclaimed British filmmaker Carol Morley and based on Martin Amis’ 1997 novel Night Train, Out of Blue is produced by Luc Roeg (We Need To Talk About Kevin), Cairo Cannon (The Falling) and Maggie Monteith (Kaleidoscope, Searching For Sugarman).

When homicide detective Mike Hoolihan (Patricia Clarkson) is called to investigate the murder of a leading astrophysicist (Mamie Gummer) in New Orleans she is confronted by a mystery that begins to affect her in ways she had never expected. Normally a tough and street-wise detective who never makes takes a case personally, has found that she cannot get the story of this woman out of her mind, and vows to find the murderer at all costs.

As the investigation deepens, and surprise suspects, as well as distraught family members, begin to emerge to complicate the case in unforeseen ways, a darker world is slowly revealed. Detective Hoolighan must use all her skills and experience to piece together fragments of a wider conspiracy that lies behind the murder.
