Disney looks to be continuing on a winning streak of transforming its iconic films into impressive live-action masterpieces. Next up is The Lion King, and from just the short teaser trailer that was unveiled, it looks sure to be a breath-taking addition to the ever-growing Disney franchise.

Watching the sun rise slowly across the screen and hearing the thumping score that has been cemented in our minds since the 1994 original, brought a lump to my throat and left goosebumps on my arm. For all fans of the original, it is sure to do the same.

The visuals look stunning; the plains of the savannah, the iconic pride rock, and the collection of CGI animals that make up the pride lands, come together in a beautiful display of cinematic craftsmanship. Jon Favreau, I salute you. After his visually impressive adaptation of The Jungle Book in 2016, Favreau looks to have applied that same winning formula here in bringing the iconic creatures of the pridelands that we know and love to life.

With the exception of Mufasa, who is voiced by James Earl Jones, reprising his role from the original 1994 film, most of the voice cast were absent from the teaser. I suppose we must wait with baited breath to hear Donald Glover in action as Simba, or Beyoncé herself as Nala. Perhaps most exciting will be Chiwetel Ejifor who is set to voice the treacherous Scar. It will be intriguing to see what Ejifor brings to the iconic villainous role when the film is released summer of next year.

The film is not due to be released for another eight months, so for now, all we can do is sit back and enjoy the wonderful throwback to our childhood that this trailer offers us. Bring on the nostalgia.
