Entertainment One have released the first official trailer for The Death of Stalin. The film, directed by Armando Lannucci, will follow the power struggle that took place in Russia during 1953 when Joseph Stalin died as leader of the Soviet Union. The trailer shows that the film has no intention of playing it close to the history books however, as the story appears to be more of a comedic elaboration of events. The cast looks very promising with the likes of Steve Buscemi, Jason Issacs, Jeffrey Tambor and Paddy Considine all starring. Comedic acting veteran Michael Palin will also feature in the role of Vyacheslav Molotov. The film will be the first feature Lannucci has directed for almost eight years, with his last feature, In the Loop, being released back in 2009. His new film, aside from its lack of historical accuracy, also appears to make no attempt to have the actors speak in Russian accents with the only way to identify their characters being their seemingly over-the-top costumes. The Death of Stalin will be released on the 20th of October in the UK. Until then, check out the first trailer below.
